UPDATE: Mr. Breakfast has changed locations. Check their details below for recent updates.

Good morning…or afternoon! It doesn’t matter which at Mr. Breakfast Jamaica’s quaint eatery on the outskirts of the bustle of one of Kingston city’s biggest business hubs – New Kingston. Open from morning until early afternoon 7 days a week, it’s the answer to the hunger prayers of persons like me who don’t usually desire breakfast before 10am!

Mr. Breakfast Jamaica

With a menu comprised of an assortment of pancakes as well as egg and waffle dishes, this is a haven for US-styled breakfast lovers. While these meal options may sound clichΓ©, they’re anything but, because each dish comes with a slight twist on regular-degular ingredients. That’s the whole reasoning behind the Mr. Breakfast slogan, β€˜say goodbye to boring breakfast’, after all.

You have the options to order ahead, dine in, and take out. If indulging at the eatery, rest at either my preferred seating – the cushioned high chairs by the artistic doodled long table facing the roads – or by the group-friendly picnic bench. A waitress will visit to check in and request your order, but what will you choose?

Venue seems to be able to seat an estimated 20 persons at a time

Restaurant Week Jamaica Special

My visit was during the foodie-favourite Restaurant Week (2018), where participating restaurants islandwide promote select meals in a discount package. Mr. Breakfast Jamaica was a part of the Morning Bites category, which included a 30% off select meals.

Mr. Breakfast Morning Bites (into the afternoon!)

Referred to by some as the Jamaican IHOP, it would only make sense to try their pancakes, right? The selection of gourmet pancakes included red velvet, buttermilk, blueberries, chocolate chip, strawberry cheesecake, PB&J, or Nutella, and come with a side of omelettes. The side’s filling options included turkey, ham, chicken, or calalloo; for a difference, I tried a turkey omelette for the first time along with blueberry pancakes. I’ll be honest, I’m not a lover of sweets so pancakes and syrup are not my go-to choice, but the small taste I had was pretty good enough for a second sampling. The turkey omelette also surprised me; I expected it to be very mild in taste, but it was surprisingly flavourful.

I also indulged in their Restaurant Week signature dish, which shockingly is not on the regular menu [yet] – a Croquet Monsieur / Madame. This includes a ham and cheese sandwich with pepper jack bΓ©chamel sauce. What’s the difference between the Monsieur and the Madame you may wonder? The Madame comes with a fried egg blanketing the sandwich, so of course I had to represent for us ladies and opt for extra egg! The sandwich is thick thanks to the hefty slices, but they’re not big enough to suppress the flavour, especially considering it is literally dripping with cheesy, meaty goodness! No side order needed, I was full well into lunch time. If my vote counts for anything Mr. Breakfast, please make this dish a part of the line up. In addition to a birthday staycation and first ever SimplyLocal.life accomodation, I can’t recall a recent time I’ve enjoyed breakfast this much outside of a relative’s kitchen.

All meals are served with a choice of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or juice

Mr. Breakfast Pancake Challenge

So, besides serving breakfast past noon, there’s one other feature that intrigued me – their pancake challenge! Every Saturday and Sunday from 8am – 10am, there’s a challenge for individuals to finish 10 pancakes in 5 minutes. Finish them and there’s no charge but if not then your tab will be a small charge for participation. Even though I’m completely sure I’d fail, it sounds like a fun(ny) activity!

Any bloggers / subscribers wanna volunteer to do this Mr. Breakfast challenge with me?
I’m up for it!
