Mayfield Falls has a rustic ambiance complete with spacious lawns, maintained gardens, hammocks, bamboo seats, gazebos and huts throughout. After crossing a wooden bridge, you’ll get the first glimpse of the turquoise water, before approaching a central area decked with staff members. In my opinion, it’s nowhere near as popular as it should be, as is 1 of 13 rivers I bet many persons haven’t been to.

Mayfield Falls Location
Off a 45-minute beaten path in hilly Westmoreland lies this refreshing series of cascades and pools. Speaker boxes blast reggae music and residents can be found enjoying the vibe by the marked ‘Reggae Style’entrance that leads to a steep stairway. Small stumps on the earthy walkway act as stairs, and bamboo benches are thoughtfully situated on plateaus to [thankfully] allow rest stops along the journey.
Providing directions to Mayfield Falls’ location is not that easy in words, but Google Maps’ pinpoint is pretty spot on in this instance. The entrance fee is J$1500 with a local ID, and US$15 otherwise.
Swimming at Mayfield Falls
Slip on your water shoes (yes, you’re gonna need ‘em), and a trained tour guide will accompany you along Mayfield River; water shoes are J$500 for rental. The crystal-clear water boasts over 20 small mineral pools to immerse yourself in! The tour guides all seem personable and very knowledgeable about every dip and crevice of the river. They’ll show you where to dive, find shelter beneath a water canopy, and enjoy the force of the water massaging your body.
Being situated in the hills, I had expected the water to be much colder but my body quickly adapted to the temperature. The video clips below can probably show you just how lovely it is much better than I can tell you 🙂
It was such a refreshing experience, but with a travel time due to the road conditions plus getting ready for Reggae Sumfest, the time at Mayfield Falls was just not enough. The next time I visit, I hope to have more friends with me and more available time to spend! The spacious grounds provide the perfect atmosphere for a large group chill.

There is so much to do here. If/when you do visit, I suggest not staying at an all-inclusive resort if you really want to experience the culture. Will check out your page, thanks for reading (and commenting) 🙂
I see we’ve been to quiet a few of the same places! Not surprising i guess as anyone with our shared interests would have some similarities. unfortunately Mayfield is not one yet. In away I am glad for that tho, cause once you see something for the first time you cant unsee it. I’m putting mayfield on my 2018 list! btw i’m new to this wordpress thing….tried finding button to follow via wordpress but cant find on your site #newbieproblems
Mayfields is lovely, I must go back, preferably in a bigger vehicle for the journey. I have a wordpress.org site and not .com, so all the communication features might not be there. In your WordPress reader, you could search the site name & you’ll probably see an option to follow. Otherwise, just sign up in the form on the right 🙂 Welcome!
Jhunelle, thank you for the nice post! I really like to read yours. 🙂
Matteu, Mayfield is one of our favorite waterfall experiences in Jamaica
I can also recommend Reach Falls in the East. 2018 we hope to discover even more unspoiled places in Jamaica.
Good travel!
Thank you and you’re welcome. I’ve been to Reach Falls as well, beautiful!
Always heard of this gem. Your post has definitely peaked my interest!
Awesome, I’m glad! I’d love to return, seems like it would be a great group excursion.
“Females: Wear a swimsuit with wide shoulder straps” this piece of advice got me 😂 very understandable though!
Please believe I had to be very conscious as to not expose myself to the tour guide.
