Fisherman’s Inn sits atop the phosphorescent bay of the Luminous Lagoon, on the outskirts of the historic town of Falmouth. This modest collection of rooms is reminiscent of a British pub hotel, just off the highway road that connects the lively cities of Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. During a trip to Fisherman’s Inn, 8 of us rode in an adequately air-conditioned 2020 Kia Carnival 11-seater while vibing to selections on its bluetooth multimedia display. After a long journey (made more comfortable thanks to Enterprise Jamaica car rental), our group was more than ready to welcome a warm meal and bed.

Fisherman’s Inn, Falmouth Jamaica
A timeless scene is painted here of boats dotting the reflective lagoon, with an occasional gliding pelican breaking the stillness. All room blocks face the water mirror, which comes alive at night as a natural attraction. Its small waves gently tap the edges of the 2-tiered Fisherman’s Inn property lined by a plank walkway that winds out to a marina. With a restaurant, spacious bar areas both indoors and outdoors, a pool, and such a calming view it’s not only a viable option for overnight stays but also laidback meals/drinks and event hosting.
Fisherman’s Inn Rooms
Guests seeking a place to rest, eat, and relax while possibly exploring Trelawny parish can have a quiet stay here. Though Fisherman’s Inn accommodations would benefit from some renovations, the tranquil view, warm hospitality, and home-style cooking are enough to make a worthwhile visit.
I visited with Love Not Likes members as a group of 8, each of us staying in a shared or private room. Multiple accommodation types with 1 – 3 beds per room are available. My roommate and I noticed a doorway leak following heavy rainfall and an inconsistency of hot water flow. Despite these, our simple 3-bed room was cosy enough to lounge in with friends when not dining or taking leisurely strolls outside. Each air-conditioned room has a cable TV, full bathroom, and a wide doorway granting a view of the lagoon. Ground floor rooms extend to private verandas (patios) while upper rooms boast balconies overlooking the water. A central saltwater pool by a gazebo-styled bar area just before the marina adds to the property’s appeal.
Luminous Lagoon
A few years prior, I had stayed at the Glistening Waters namesake hotel during a 3-day birthday staycation. This being my 2nd stay on the banks of this night time attraction, I already had set expectations. Fisherman’s Inn offers guests to board a glass bottom boat that takes them a short distance offshore to witness the Luminous Lagoon’s mystical magic. Unfortunately during our stay downpours of daytime rain significantly dimmed the water’s natural glow; though visible, it was far from its brightest.
5 Things to Do in Falmouth Jamaica
If you’re looking for other excursion ideas while staying at Fisherman’s Inn, here are a few I can personally recommend:
- Rafting on the Martha Brae river
- Walking Tour of Falmouth
- Schedule a Culinary Tour
- Check out a river or beach (eg. Dornoch River, 876 Beach Club, Burwood Beach, Blue Waters)
- Adventure Park + Great House Tour
Hoptscotch Restaurant by the Luminous Lagoon
Fisherman’s Inn is just next door to a highway rest stop eatery called Hoptscotch; your stay would be inclusive of breakfast. It’s a spacious bar and grill area with seating that looks towards the bay. Wispy breeze travels through the open-air establishment, while small thatch-roof gazebos sit on the lawn. The calm atmosphere of the entire property is enlivened by feel-good music spilling from the bar area.
Hoptscotch restaurant and bar isn’t just limited to guests of Fisherman’s Inn, so feel free to stop by during a road trip in the northwest. The daily menu includes a changing selection of Jamaican cuisine favourites. My meal choices were all satisfying in both serving size and taste. During my 2-night stay I enjoyed breakfast main dishes of callaloo, and stewed chicken, with sides of green banana, fried dumplings, plantain, and bacon. For lunch and dinner, fried chicken with rice & peas, and escoveitched fish with fried bammy were well-seasoned with a pleasing crisp. I gather that taste quality was inconsistent though after asking other Love Not Likes members about their choice dishes; received great and not-so-great reviews. For example, I had fried chicken twice, and though I enjoyed it both times they notably differed.
If you’re looking for a lowkey place to stay (and/or eat) while in Trelawny, especially if you want to experience the glistening waters of the Luminous Lagoon, Fisherman’s Inn can provide that for you.
Eat, drink, and hop on a ferry… How do you picture a visit here?
